Milwaukee Global Mala

October 4, 2014

Join me (and 8 other amazing Milwaukee teachers) for the 5th Annual Milwaukee Global Mala. Each year the Mala brings our yoga community together overlooking Lake Michigan, united for global peace. In 2014 entrance donations supports omTown Yogis' Annual Grant Fund.  This year's mala also supports the Milwaukee Art Museum, a non-profit cornerstone of our city's culture and a vibrant symbol of our shared belief in the importance of art, beauty and self-expression.

The morning begins with a guided sunrise meditation, followed by a gentle asana session to awaken the body. The morning's main focus is then experienced as we are led by a series of 9 teachers guiding us through 108 rounds of  Surya Namaskar (sun salutations). The flow of 108 is supported by the voices and energy of 9 teachers in sequence, each leading 12 rounds while sharing a theme and contributing their perspective. We are all wholly supported by the ebbs and flows of dynamic live music. The event is intended for everyone, both beginners through experienced practitioners and in this spirit we are each to listen to our bodies and do only as much that benefits ourselves. The series of 108 Surya Namaskar is followed by a well deserved rest in savasana.

Inner Vision Workshop

MAY 24, 2014 1:00-3:00 at YAMA YOGA STUDIO
Trust your instincts and intuition. Trust your body and your practice. Trust your other senses and learn to let go. In this workshop we will be letting go of all outside distractions. We will even be letting go of our sense of sight. Practicing without the distraction of everything arising in our field of vision, allows for more “Inner Vision” and deeper connection with our true center. Allow yourself to explore your practice from a whole new point of “view.”
For the first half of this workshop we will be practicing with our eyes closed, *(or blindfolded if you choose- *this is not mandatory to participate). Rest assured that your body knows how to transition from one posture into the next without the use of sight. Allow a deeper connection to your body to take place as we flow thru some very familiar asanas and try our balance at others.

Fall Equinox Celebration

SEPTEMBER 28, 2013  1:00 - 3:00 at YamaYoga Studio

Noticing the daylight hours have become shorter, and there’s a crispness in the air, our yoga practice should reaffirm our need to find balance in our lives. Our bodies follow the same rhythms as nature, so the change of seasons is the perfect time to celebrate the return of fall. As we transition from the outward expression and expansion of summer, we can now unburden ourselves from those objects and actions that no longer serve us.

Just as the trees release their leaves, we now prepare to draw our energies inward. Marking the time when night and day are equal in length, we will cultivate our own balance using a fiery yang practice to acknowledge the energy of the summer months. We will dedicate this half to Self Awareness, love and personal transformation. As the practice begins to slow and awareness is drawn inward, we will honor ourselves with soothing yin postures to help cool and restore and prepare us for fall. We can now express, heartfelt gratitude for the abundance of summer and welcome a time of peaceful internal reflection. Honor a moment of stillness in your otherwise busy life, to pause, breathe and reset.

Bring a friend and a joy filled heart to celebrate the change of seasons with us.
Ali and I look forward to welcoming a new season with you.

Summer Solstice Yoga Celebration

JUNE 22nd 1:00-3:00 at  YamaYoga Studio

As we move out of spring into summer, take a moment to reflect on how the sun influences your own life. The change of seasons should be reflected in one’s yoga practice. Now is the time to celebrate your own creativity and vitality.

Join us as we celebrate the abundance of light, and honor the coming summer season as we flow thru a yoga practice that is designed to honor this time of the year. In this workshop we will learn to connect more deeply with our own inner radiance, and create harmony thru asana, pranayama and meditation.

This mixed level class is open to all levels of practitioner. You will leave with a new sense of alignment, and a deeper sense of balance. Shed old layers, expand your inner world and let your true radiance shine!
Ali and I look forward to welcoming a new season with you.

Plank-Off

JUNE 23, 2013  1:00pm
Practice - Perserverance - Prizes

Join us for this fun & challenging event and see if you have what it takes.  For the month of June, our teachers will be focusing on plank pose.  Doing it…  refining it…  holding it…challenging you with it!  (some would even say taunting you with it) but no….  we have your best interest at heart.

All that hard work and effort will pay off come June 23rd when we come together as a community to see who can use their core strength and hold plank the longest- straight arms, not on elbows.

Everyone brings $10 cash, puts it into the pot, and last man (and woman) standing splits the pot.

2nd and 3rd place runners up will win class packages to Yama or added time on their current membership or additional classes on their current package.

Cost: $10. Pre-registration required. Pay and register online.
